Thai explosives control chief arrested for stealing 134 firearms

THAILAND: A high-ranking Thai policeman, serving as director of the National Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau, has been arrested after stealing more than 100 firearms from the police warehouse, that he stole in order to pay off his gambling debts.
The arrest took place on the evening of October 21, 2022, at a hotel in Nong Khai province on the border with Laos.
General Son Sethak Phan, Deputy Commissioner of the Thai National Police, confirmed that the suspect, 42-year-old Chow Walit Phum John, was the director of the National Weapons Control Bureau. He was arrested in connection with 134 weapons that were reported stolen from warehouses, mostly small arms, but also long weapons and bombs.
General Son Sethak Phan said that after he found out that the suspect was preparing documents to go abroad, he sent a force to arrest him at the border and he was brought in for questioning.

It's interesting because Cambodia used to be a main source for illicit firearms trafficked to Thailand. Nowadays it seems that many are imported from Thailand.
