Bavet Police Crackdown on Local Gamblers Finds Only Chess Players
Cambodia News, (Svay Rieng Province): Mr. Men Eng, Deputy Governor of Svay Rieng Province, led a joint police force to crack down on three places where illegal gambling has taken place, but the team found only some chess players drinking coconuts. The owners of the three locations had been previously warned that any gambling found on the premises will be followed by strict legal sanctions.
According to Bavet City Police, at 2:10 pm on October 21, 2022, Mr. Men Eng, Deputy Governor of Svay Rieng Province, continued to lead a joint force to inspect 3 suspected gambling locations in Prey Or Sangkat. Bavet, Bavet City, Svay Rieng Province, with the participation of Mr. Vann Somony and Mr. Reth Reaksa, Deputy Governor of Bavet City, and many members of the armed forces.
Sources said that in this crackdown against gambling, there were 3 locations targeted:
- The first location was at the house named Plang Saly in the village. Kork Lveang, Sangkat Prey Angkunh, Bavet City. After checking that there was no gambling activity going on, the police team warned the owner that the location must not be secretly reopened for gambling.
The second location at the house of Keo Sokha in Kork Lveang village, Sangkat Prey Angkunh, again no gambling was found. The site owner was warned not to open to allow gambling again.
The third location was at Prak Yen house in Prey Top village, Prey Angkunh commune, where, after checking that there was no gambling activity, the officials advised the owners of the above location not to secretly open the game again because it is against the law.
The source added that after the inspection, Mr. Men Eng, Deputy Governor of Svay Rieng Province, instructed the Bavet City Authority and all forces to increase cooperation among relevant authorities in maintaining peace, political stability, security, public order, disseminating traffic laws, as well as preventing and suppress crimes such as human trafficking, drug use, gangsterism and all kinds of illegal gambling.
The public congratulated the provincial authorities on leading local police to crack down on the three gambling establishments at the local level, and hoped that the three owners would now stop opening their premises for gambling every day each time that the authorities turn away, as has been the case until now.

Luckily no-one was playing Snakes and Ladders or Dominoes, I would hate to see what the punishment is for being caught playing those gambling games.
