4 Escape Death After Truck Brakes Fail on Steep Descent

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Motorcycle carts, remorque style tuk tuks, home built trucks and van conversions should all be banned from the road
Yes, agree in theory.
But this is what happened recently when the "motodops", known as "okadas"in Lagos, Nigeria, got taken off the road - massive unemployment for mostly unemployable people and lack of cheap transport for the poor.
This was also announced as a measure to reduce crime (bag-snatching robberies) in Lagos, but large numbers of men out of work is not going to fix the crime rate. It might help with the number of traffic accidents though, with statistics saying that the "okadas" were causing a large number of Lagos traffic accidents.
Any sort of vehicle ban would affect the poorest, but I would support stricter vehicle control and some sort of MOT, I guess. And more road code education for schools and the general population.

There are still a few around the central district. One thing I would like to see enforced is lights on vehicles at night, it's amazing how many idiots pile around without lights on dark streets. Some are shitboxes that don't have operational lights but many are morons trying to save a few cents on gas. :?

Traffic code needs amending for that; it's perfectly within the law to drive without a headlight at night where there is "adequate street lighting"

Maybe they believe the government will tax them when switching on the lights at night.

Dark window tint on front windows is against traffic code, but nobody really cares to enforce it very much

making it a double whammy. No lights plus blinded windows.

I see it more with motorbikes/ remorques than cars.
