Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on October 11, 2022, sentenced a Khmer woman to 30 years in prison and fined her 10 million Riel to be paid to the state budget for drug trafficking.
Ros Piseth, President of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, said that the accused woman was Ouch Sokny, 29 years old.

The woman was arrested along Veng Sreng Street, Chrey Kong Village, Sangkat Choam Chao II, Khan Por Senchey, Phnom Penh, on March 23, 2022.

There are literally billions of dollars worth of narcotics being trafficked through Cambodia every year, mostly for export. A kilo of crystal meth is a lot but I could bet that most of these mules were working for major crims and were only expecting a couple of hundred dollars at the most for taking these huge risks. Now they are fuct but the big guys never get their hands dirty and can still keep rolling. The authorities have been busting a lot of operations with unprecedented and ever increasing volumes but we all know this is only the tip of the iceberg. It's not that hard to buy influence and these cartels have vast resources. :?

These harsh punishments don't solve anything, let alone, prevent the crime happening again.
It's not a deterrent because the reason people turn to the crime doesn't go away.
If the war on drugs is a losing battle, maybe the focus should shift from prevention and punishment, to management and control.

I'm bored of seeing these 'news' reports. It's not news, it's just propaganda. They only arrest and imprison mules and storage site workers, and it's all for show. I've never seen anything that resembles a genuine arrest and prosecution of real traffickers.

Time to face facts, Cambodia is a narco-state.

Yet, paradox, if you hadn't seen these "news reports", then you wouldn't be aware that large numbers of ignorant "mules" are being locked up almost every day, and that drug trafficking in Cambodia is (more than) thriving.
