Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): On the morning of October 11, 2022, the light criminal police department of the Ministry of Interior arrested the suspect, KEL CHI, a 37-year-old Nigerian man, and sent him to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for legal action over an US$ 5,000 fraud case on Facebook.

According to the source, the victim, Un Srey Net, a 24-year-old female, became Facebook friends with an account in the name of Don Richard in August 2022. In September 2022, Don Richard told the victim on Facebook that he wanted to send her some goods and money from Korea.

Then on September 30, 2022, the Nigerian man called the victim, pretending that he was a customs officer at Phnom Penh Airport, and saying that there were items for her that were sent from Korea, but the package was detained by customs at the airport because the import tax had not been paid. The victim was told to pay 10,000 Dollars in tax to get the package.

The victim apparently sent the scammer $ 5,000 through Wing, but when her family found out, they knew it was a scam, so they immediately complained to the authorities.
The Nigerian man is being held in detention by the Cambodian authorities.
