Vietnamese Woman Hostage Rescued in Armed Forces Raid
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On the morning of October 7, 2022, on St. 60meter Road, Prek Tanu village, Sangkat Chak Angre Leu, Khan Mean Chey, Phnom Penh, the Phnom Penh armed forces cracked down on a case of illegal detention and extortion of a Vietnamese woman.
The captive woman was being held to ransom by a gang of Chinese criminals, who were demanding that her family pay US$100K for her release.
At 12:10 pm, police forces stormed a condo at the above address, arresting 24-year-old Ey Pheung, a Chinese national, and rescuing the 34-year-old Vietnamese female victim, Nguyen Chi Ming Ngang. Unfortunately, many of the suspects were aware of the authorities' plan to raid the condo, and had already fled the scene.
At 2:10 pm, the authorities found 1 bag of methamphetamine, 36 red pills, and some drug tools in room #B1909 on the 19th floor of the Urban Village condo complex.
Then, at 6:30 pm, police tracked down 1 of the suspected cars, an Audi (PNH 1AX-1625), carrying 4 of the wanted suspects. This led to the arrest of 3 other suspects in a Land Cruiser (PNH 2BP-1617).
One of the police officers was injured during the chase. The suspects were taken to the police station for further investigation. Their identities have not been released to the press.

Re: Vietnamese Woman Hostage Rescued in Armed Forces Raid
It's weird. Cambodia was sketchy and dangerous until the late 90s. Then it gradually seemed to get much safer and was getting a much better reputation for more than a decade. Now it's back in the stone age as far as reputation goes. Sure there has been plenty of investment and the infrastructure is improving but did it have to come at this expense? It's not all that bad on the ground but the perception is heading back to "Bandit Nation" again. The country will suffer if people don't trust it and see it in a bad light. Poor fella my country, you deserve better than this.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
