Two British Men Detained for Flying Drone at Midnight in Phnom Penh

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Drones are banned from flying in PP since Feb 2015 without prior approval.

Feb 19 2015

Cambodian authorities issued a directive Monday banning drones from the airspace of the nation’s capital city without prior approval, citing privacy and security concerns.

“To ensure the respect for the rights of people and to maintain security, safety and public order, the Phnom Penh municipality decides to ban camera-equipped drones from flying over Phnom Penh’s airspace from now on,” the directive read.

Yes the precis was not precise - I haven't had a beer all day. The website articles were better now I read them.. Sorry Sorry...

We can take lessons from external interfering western imperialist dog drone invader spy facilitators such as UAV Systems or Long Dimanche :beer3:

In general - read the news and don't fly drones in PP or Siem Reap

Too late, man... I had unwittingly browsed a lot of porn in search of the drone in question.

I know a few people operate drones to collect site information but I couldn't find very recent posts about it. I was hoping to join the crowd but am unsure of what to get. I'm hoping to do some simpler photogrammetry as I would hire a pro surveyor when higher precision is needed. A small private garden might be a typical project for this. So what precision would I get from what budget? Drone recommendations from these? Would I need external software? I spoke to a reseller which recommended a Phantom 4 RTK at roughly $6500 here in Sweden. That is just way over budget for me as I was hoping to get in at maybe no more than $2000-3000, preferably with no running software costs (except VW), as I don't expect to make any money out of it. Obviously I don't expect millimeter precision from a lower budget.

This is Cambodia Expats Online, aka CEO. It's about Cambodia.

You want a forum about drones I think.

RTK is useless to a hobbyist, unless you just happen to own the professional survey equipment required to make use of RTK.

Any dji with a camera that can be pointed down that is compatible with https://www.djiflightplanner.com will do the job.

Photogrammetry software is expensive. You can try Open Drone Mapper (ODM) but it doesn't give results as good as premium applications like pix4d, drone deploy etc.
