Qualify Optometrist And Glasses In KoW
Qualify Optometrist And Glasses In KoW
Hello.
I have a couple of questions for members of CEO.
I need a new prescription for my progressive glasses. I am currently in Canada but will be back in Phnom Penh in November. I was planning to see qualify optometrist and have my prescription filled in Phnom Penh. Here are my questions:
1) Optometrist:
I assume that KoW have optometrist that can perform the eye examination. I do not know the quality of the optometrist in Phnom Penh. Would you recommend that I getting a prescription from my home country (Canada) or in Phnom Penh?
If the quality of the optometrist are roughly the same, I would prefer to see one in Phnom Penh. In Canada it cost about $80 for an eye examination. Does anyone know roughly the cost for an eye examination in Phnom Penh?
Does anyone have recommendations for a qualify optometrist in Phnom Penh?
2: Eye Glasses
Regardless of where I get my eye examination, I will be getting my glasses in Phnom Penh. Glasses are expensive here in Canada. My prescription will be for progressive but I would also like a pair for reading, pair of sunglasses and a pair of sports glasses (for Pickleball). I will also be getting new frames.
Does anyone know of a good Vision Care place in Phnom Penh that can meet all my needs?
Thanks in advance!
PS: I have transportation so any recommendations are welcome for Phnom Penh.

Eye tests are free at many places but if you’ve got unusual prescription and/or want specialist lenses (+4 or -4 and above) then the shops here are limited, they all come from Japan and Germany (Hoya, Eccelisor etc) but can be found.
Try Owndays. Singaporean company.

Thank for your reply!
I don't think there is any thing special with prescription. So I will most like use an optometrist in Phnom Penh.
Forgot to ask in original post, do you know roughly what is the cost for a pair of progressive glasses with all the add-on (UV, anti-glare, transitions etc)? I know the cost will mostly be based on the frame I choose. What would be a mid range pair of frames be?

In normal Khmer shops, unless you are choosing genuine designer stuff, the frames are dead cheap, my last two pairs of standard prescription glasses were both less than $30 each including lenses. As mentioned, there are branches of Owndays at both Aeon malls (I think they are Japanese rather than Singaporean).Newinkow wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 9:55 pm Thank for your reply!

A full set with the highest quality lenses will set you back 100-120 USD depending on the frame you choose. Frames typically costs 15-40 USD, lensen 20-45 USD per piece..Newinkow wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 9:55 pm Thank for your reply!

Not sure what you mean with 'progressive glasses' though.
I got my glasses at Do Seiha on 110 street. Can't fault them. When I needed new lenses they simply exchanged them so no need for a new frame. I only use them when driving so can't bother about the frame too much.
A higher standard can maybe be found in the Japanese Eye Hospital, which is in the Central Hospital close to Sorya. Haven't used them for glasses though but it look$ fancy.

I think progressive is multi focal.

Thanks everyone for your help replies.
The term "progressive glasses" is the newer technology of "bifocals or multifocals" glasses.
The old style of bifocals lens you can actually see a line across the lens. The top part for see far and the bottom for reading. The line is a hard transitions from far sighted to near sighted.
Progressive is the new technology. Actually I think it's been around for awhile. I don't know if they make bifocal lens anymore. Progressive lens have seamless increase in magnification from top to bottom of the lens. Progressive glasses are great for daily wear. Having said that, I like to read and play sports. I find that reading glasses are better for reading. For sports, I found a dedicated nearsighted lens is better.
For me to fulfill my eye wear needs in Canada will cost me over $1000.
Once again really appreciate all the feedback.

I don’t recall if I was given the option of progressives in PP. I do know that regular glasses for shortsightedness cost me just over a quarter of what I pay in my home country. Plus it took less time to get them - and I have a strong prescription
Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

You can get progressive glasses in Phnom Penh.
Owndays for real Japanese brand stuff and for cheaper option I can recommend Phom Optic. Run by young local guy who has studied in Korea. Frames are nameless or fake brand ones, price range from $10 to $100. Lenses are real and you can select different quality/brand (made in china or france etc.). You can contact him via Facebook to check that you can get what you want: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100083454849884
Owndays prices you can see online: https://www.owndays.com/kh/km/services/lens just use google translate.
