$100 bills

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Anyone talking about counterfeit $100 bills is spending their time in seedy places, whether they're printed as a copy or not.

For Cambodia, I agree with you, despite many people making different claims.

There's a hundred more variations on the theme.

People paying a tuk tuk with a hundred, driver coming back with counterfeit.
People paying bar tab with a hundred, cashier coming back with a counterfeit.
Exchange of money in in-room safe.
Giving 'girlfriend' the wallet to pay the bill, end up with counterfeit bills.
etc etc

But the most common one is the ATM spitting out counterfeits of course, unfortunately those notes are never caught on the spot but only a few days later. Guess the ATM's are smart enough to put a real note on top and the fakes under that one  .

Anyway, when paying with a hundred dollar bill, mention the last numbers of the bill with the cashier when paying, and you're safe. For the rest, be a bit more streetwise.
