Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On 1 September 2022, Samdech Pich Sena Tea Banh, Minister of National Defence and Deputy Prime Minister, and His Excellency Wang Wentian Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cambodia, presided over the handover ceremony of 150 luxury vehicles and other office equipment which was granted from the China’s Defence Ministry to the Cambodian Defence Ministry for official use, especially in the ASEAN Plus Defence Ministers’ Meeting, which will be held in Cambodia.

The handover ceremony of these cars and materials took place at the Victory Monument. On that occasion, Mr. Wang Wentian said that the Cambodian and Chinese army are like brothers who know and sympathise each other’s cause, and are partners whose actions speak louder than words. The Chinese Ambassador said that the assistance provided by China’s Defence Ministry is a practical act to show China’s support of Cambodia organising the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting and future international meetings. China also hopes that Cambodia will play a more active and proactive role in regional security.

Staff cars, just what the average soldier needs to do his job well... What brand are those? Don't they know that the top officials already have luxury cars? German ones and Japanese ones too, so I doubt they'll be too impressed. I'm sure the troops on the ground will be impressed by the generosity.

"First they pimped my country, then they pimped my car "
Why go "luxury"? To make friend's Bugatis and RollsRoyces look less weird ?

They look to be mostly sedans, but you can see a few 4WDs, vans, (dirty)buses in other photos.

Donated, or off-loaded?

Your average modern day red other-chinese commie general in chief may not stoop so low as to buy domestic, either. They have standards to maintain, too.

Maybe the Chinese expect to track 150 of the Kingdom’s top military minds, with a view to knocking them out if they get too uppity. In which case, 150 Apple tags might have been more cost effective, if not quite so bling.

It's a very odd donation. Like others pointed out the top brass are not short of nice cars.

It’s for the upcoming ASEAN Conference. They get picked up, driven around, and dropped off in Chinese made cars. Plus all the media coverage and photo ops of everyone being chauffeured around in Chinese sedans.

An indirect way of showing ASEAN members who is the real boss and their place in the world.

I don't see that working. Okhna Kith Meng still has hundreds of limos left over from the last conference and lots of new models too. They'll be going for his fleet.
