Bodyguard Dies in Motorbike Crash
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): At 10:50 pm on August 24, 2022, a man, recognized as being a member of the Bodyguard Unit*, was killed in a motorbike accident, caused by 3 men speeding carelessly on their motorbike, who collided with him at the 2-Deer Roundabout, Sangkat Metapheap, Khan 7 Makara, Phnom Penh.
The soldier from the elite squad died in the accident, while the 3 men on the other motorcycle were injured and sent to the nearby hospital.
The police examined the accident scene, and then the victim's body was given to the family for the funeral. The identity of the deceased was not released at the time.
* The Brigade 70 or B-70 was an elite VIP protection unit for Prime Minister HE, until 2009, when it became the Prime Minister's Bodyguard Unit.

The PMBU separated from Brigade 70 in 2009 and both still exist.Its history is traced back to the Phnon Penh-based Khmer Rouge unit, in charge of detaining and beating anyone to make them confess that they're Khmer Rouge fighters. After the Paris Peace Accords were signed in 1991, the unit became known as Regiment 70. They later became known as Brigade 70 in 1993.
