Man Drives into Train

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

According to the KT, the driver of the Camry had parked on the railway tracks in order to have a nap. However, as shown in the photo featured below, it looks like an unlikely spot to choose for a quick shut-eye.

A Pursat man discovered that a railway line is not an appropriate place to take a snooze yesterday.
The incident happened in Ponnak village, Chheu Tom commune, Krakor district, Pursat province on the afternoon of August 15, 2022.
It appears that the Toyota Camry driver was in a tired and emotional state and had decided to take a rest stop.

Taking a nap?
Even by some of the bizarre rationales and Khmer standards, I find that hard to believe. More like someone quoting a glib comment.

I wasn't aware that there was a safer place to pull over or nap than on the train tracks. I'm not the only one...

(Imagined) Interview with a person who likes to sleep on railway tracks in their car and gets woken by a train.
Some people have suggested that this was not an ideal spot to have a snooze.

"What do you mean that wasn't a good place to sleep ? It was perfectly fine except that I got woken up by a bloody train in the middle of the day."

Who do you think had right of way here ?

"I'm suing the railway because they deliberately dented my car".

So, all in all, this was a great spot for a nap ? No regrets ?

 Ok, Freightdog, haha. You got me. Mea culpa.
I set up the whole thing up - I admit that I got the guy really pissed, slipped him some roofies, then I pushed his car on to the train line as he was sleeping, just before the express train to Pursat was due.
Damn. Busted. Incredible !!

As far as I am concerned many of these railway incidents aren't accidents. There might be rare occasions where someone is really drunk and the only dry land without undergrowth is the railway line. So after talking to loads of cops and medics etc I figured out that a whole lot of these are suicide cases. They know the train can't stop in time. 8-)

Silence, exile, and cunning.

I was quite impressed that the KT was aware of such euphemisms as "tired and emotional", maybe we will see mention of discussing Ugandan affairs next.
