Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
Re: Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
True, I just think with the overall much lower number of arrivals nowadays, returning expats currently have a significantly higher share, especially as there aren't any one-off Chinese tourists. So if they think that 3 million is X percent of whatever they had pre-Covid, recovery of genuine tourism specifically will actually be at a lower percentage. There has always been an issue with TAT numbers, obviously, so in that sense whatever stats they compile are questionable anyway.jaynewcastle wrote: ↑Fri Jul 29, 2022 12:32 amArrival figures have always counted everybody arriving ?Alex wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 3:53 pm I think the arrival numbers as such aren't really a good indicator for tourism recovery in particular.
I've visited Cambodia twice within the last two months, simply because it's so simple now. So upon my return to Thailand, I've been counted as "two tourists" from my country already, although I live here in Thailand. And I'll go again next month, as well as to a number of other countries. Many other expats are now traveling a lot more again, too.
Didn't ex-pats in Thailand travel abroad before Covid happened ?

My view from soi 23, as I head to a nearby Irish Pub every Saturday evening. Cowboy is semi-busy with punters wandering up and down. Lots of terrace activity as the girls hunt prey. I hear there is stage activity inside. << The inside action reports comes from a friend who is a compulsive (and happy) Cowboy customer. Lots of musical noise pulsing up and down the gauntlet. Best sign of healthy commerce is all the taxis parked along 23, also waiting for prey -- yes, they're pushing flat rates again.
That's all I know. I do think that external events will tend to keep a lid on anything resembling pre-2019 levels. Several recent Pattaya video reports by normally boosterish producers note the place is rather quiet, despite the preponderance of new (empty) bars and outwardly busy Buakhao. Sorry.

Foreign arrival screening increased to prevent monkeypox spread
Foreign arrival screening increased to prevent monkeypox spread
The Thai government is taking precautions to screen incoming travellers from countries with monkeypox outbreaks in hopes of preventing its spread in the Kingdom. Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul reported that his ministry is coordinating airport screening and its focusing on people travelling from countries that are struggling with a monkeypox outbreak.
The deputy director-general of the Department of Disease Control has asked for airports around the countries to step up efforts of their quarantine offices and increase screening of foreign arrivals from countries with monkeypox spread. By the end of this week, 138 travellers from Africa and 2389 travellers from Europe have been screened for monkeypox, though no infections have been found so far.
more here; https://thethaiger.com/news/national/fo ... AjwlRET6VkThe World Health Organisation reported that sexual contact between two men is still the most common source of transmission, and suggest gay and bisexual men try to reduce their number of sexual partners until the global outbreak has slowed to keep themselves safe and prevent further spread.
.......Anyone feared to have been exposed to monkeypox is being placed in a 3-week quarantine to avoid possible spread.

Flew SR-BKK on Friday and back again today. Both flights were completely full. AirAsia could probably justify adding more flights at this rate.
Tourist area around Soi Rambuttri was absolutely packed on the evening that we wandered through there.
