When they approached the driver and questioned him, he said that he wanted to sell his car for 300k Thai bahts. Police found this suspicious and detained the man for further investigation.

After the interrogation, the suspect admitted that he had stolen the car from a monk at a pagoda in Poipet city to resell. The suspect and the car were held in custody for further proceedings.

A man is in custody today after being arrested for stealing a monk’s gold Lexus.
Is anyone else wondering what a monk is doing with a "gold Lexus" ? I know that some of the Thai monks are really over the top, but this is a "Cambodian monk" AFAIK. (Therefore, supposedly less flashy).

Yes, supposedly....

I always thought the iPhone was needed to stay in contact with the higher powers but the car is more difficult to explain.

Monks don't just drop out of the sky and then disappear into nirvana later on. They are people who sometimes only become monks for relatively short periods. So it's quite possible for a car owner to become a monk. As far as I know they don't have all their worldly goods confiscated when they join the Sangha. However they are not supposed to drive.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

'Showing off' next to their car is fine though?

^^ Agree with you both on this. For sure, that fat tycoon, that became a monk in order to show that he was super-sorry about beating up his wife because she divorced him, did not give away his fancy cars and all the rest when he got his head shaved.

Monks can actually own cars and money, but IMO it's not very monklike to pose with them on FB while dressed as a monk. A bit of discretion on your FB page is valid when you are pretending to give up worldly goods and work on improving your inner being(even if it's only for a short time.)
