Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On July 22, 2022, at 12:20 am on St. 161 in front of Sampov Meas pagoda, Sangkat Boeung Brolet, Khan 7 Makara, Phnom Penh, an unidentified foreigner was killed after falling off a moving tuk-tuk during a phone snatch incident.

According to the tuk-tuk driver, the victim was riding in his tuk-tuk with a female passenger, coming from St. 222 behind the Royal Palace. They were crossing St. 161 on their way home, when suddenly a group of robbers on 3 unidentified motorbikes chased after them as they passed the Sampov Meas pagoda,and suddenly snatched a handbag from the foreigner.
However, the victim fought back and got the bag back from the thieves, but in doing so, he fell off the tuk-tuk and landed backward on the road seriously injuring himself, and unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on arrival at the hospital.
The attackers all escaped the crime scene on their motorbikes, and according to the source, there were no police officers at the scene to investigate the incident.
