Non-Swimming Man Drowns Chasing Floating Shoe

Cambodia News (Banteay Meanchey Province): On July 13, 2022, at 5:30 pm at a pond northern of Wat Chas pagoda 500m from Wat Chas village, in Banteay Meanchey province, a 59-year-old man died of drowning after attempting to get his floating shoe back.

According to a 60-year-old female witness, My Soun, they went for a swim at the pond. Then the victim's shoe floated away, so he chased after it, but he began to sink into the water. The woman didn't dare to swim after him, so she ran to call for help from the villagers.
They found his body at 6:13 pm and sent him to the hospital but he had already passed. The autopsy confirmed that he died from drowning.

Morality : don"t swim with your shoes, especially if you don"t know how to swim

Would it really have been that bad walking around barefoot? Even if they were his only pair of shoes, I wouldn't have risked it.
