The three youths arrested were all 18 years old and taking drugs. According to the police report, on 29 June 2022, the 3 suspects left a "PTT" gas station on Street 371 seeking victims to rob. The thieves saw a woman riding a black Markscope motorcycle alone along the 2004 Road, and they also saw a dark green iPhone plugged onto the victim's motorbike which was left in the left front pocket of the victim.
The robbers then turned their motorcycles around and chased after the victim until they reached the front of Com Market (Sangkat O Bek Kam) where they cornered the victim, grabbed the headphone cable and the phone from the victim and drove off.

The woman shouted "thieves" ("Jao!!") vey loudly, alerting the people traveling on the road, as she chased the suspects on her motorbike to the point of Tela Petrol Station on Street 371. But the victim oversteered and hit the back of the suspects’ motorbike, causing an accident where she fell on the ground, together with one of the thieves. She was slightly injured.

The fallen thief was then surrounded and beaten up by the villagers, while the other two suspects escaped the scene on their motorbike taking the victim's cell phone with them. Fortunately, the police of O Bek Kam Police Station were patrolling in the vicinity, and they intervened to arrest the other two suspects and recover the stolen phone.

The victim of the theft was 23 year old Prak Sovath Krisla who was a coffee seller living in Khan Por Senchey, Phnom Penh.
The suspects are currently being held for questioning at the specialized unit of the Sen Sok District Police Inspectorate and will be sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for further legal action.

Actually, this mob mentality is a little dangerous, as not everyone getting stuck in is going to know why.

When I was a kid, people were saying that if you wanted to get rid of someone, you just shouted "Mwizi" (thief in Kiswahili) when he is in the street and the mob would take care of the rest.

So yes, it is dangerous but I can also understand the frustration of the populace where the police is seen as ineffective at best.
