Cambodia Requests Remains of Soldiers Fallen in Vietnam
Cambodia to Repatriate Remains of 49 Cambodian Soldiers Fallen in Vietnam
AKP Phnom Penh, June 20, 2022 --
Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE has requested the Ministry of National Defence and relevant parties to consider the repatriation from Vietnam of the remains of 49 Cambodian National Salvation soldiers who have lost their lives in the cause of national liberation from the Pol Pot genocidal regime.
The Premier made the request at the commemoration of 45th Remembrance Day of "Journey to Overthrow the Pol Pot Genocidal Regime" in Koh Thmar village, Tonloung commune, Memut district, Thbong Khmum province this morning.
“Please consider whether we should repatriate the remains to Cambodia and store them at this Koh Thmar historical area,” he said, recalling, “Vietnam has given us land to keep the remains of the 49 fallen soldiers whose families I could not find.”
The Prime Minister continued that the Vietnamese side is repatriating the remains of their soldiers fallen in Cambodia, therefore it is time for Cambodia to bring those of the fallen Cambodian National Salvation soldiers back to the country.
“On June 20 each year, we can come to pay our respects and hold ceremonies at Koh Thmar historical area,” Samdech Techo HE added.
