Prince Andrew asks Queen to reinstate royal role

London: Prince Andrew has asked the Queen to reinstate him as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, the London Telegraph understands, as he pushes for a return to royal duties.

Andrew has been lobbying the monarch for his status as a blood prince to be restored, meaning readmittance to official events with other members of his family. He has also been pushing for his daughters, princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, to be made working royals.

A source said: “The colonelcy of the Grenadier Guards was his most coveted title and he wants it back. Having remained a Counsellor of State, he also believes he should be included at royal and state events. “Most important for him is his status as an HRH and ‘Prince of the Blood’ and he feels that should be reinstated and his position recognised and respected.”

Andrew inherited the colonelcy of the Grenadier Guards from his father, Prince Philip, in 2017, and it was returned to the Queen in January. Andrew will appear in public with senior members of the Royal family at the annual Order of the Garter ceremony, dressed in full regalia for the colourful procession at Windsor Castle. It will be his first official outing since he controversially took centre stage at his father’s, the late Duke of Edinburgh, memorial service in March.

Andrew will be aware that time is of the essence where his future is concerned, with a return to the spotlight only possible with the Queen’s agreement. Prince Charles has made clear that in his opinion, there is no way back.

While talks about Andrew’s future are underway behind the scenes, there is no desire behind palace walls to return any of his honorary military titles or patronages. Although he has the ear of the Queen - visiting her at Windsor Castle several times a week - palace aides are under no illusion about the strength of public feeling over his links with Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender, and recent sexual abuse allegations.

In February, Andrew paid about £12 million ($21 million) to settle a civil case with Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who accused him of sexual assault and battery. He has always denied any wrongdoing.

Despite being effectively sacked as a working royal, he remains ninth in line to the throne and as such, a Counsellor of State, a role undertaken by any spouse of the monarch and the next four adults in the line of succession, currently Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew. While senior royals, including his three siblings and William, are said to have little sympathy for Andrew given his questionable conduct, they recognise that a role for him needs to be found.

At 62, he has time to rebuild his life with a focus out of the public eye. His family members and courtiers appreciate that to do this, he will need palace support. A senior Buckingham Palace source said: “Clearly at some point soon, thought will have to be given as to how to support the Duke as, away from the public gaze, he seeks slowly to rebuild his life in a different direction.”

However, when out riding in Windsor, Andrew has continued to wear a waterproof jacket bearing the cypher of the Grenadier Guards and its motto, Honi soit qui mal y pense (“Shame upon he who thinks evil of it”).

More royal goss..

‘For his own good’: Prince William, Charles urged Queen to disinvite Prince Andrew

London: Prince William warned the Queen he would feel uncomfortable in the Order of the Garter ceremony alongside his disgraced uncle. Prince Charles also made an eleventh hour intervention amid fears of a public “backlash”. The pair shared their concerns with each other before taking them to the Queen on Sunday.

As a result, the Queen reluctantly told her second son, Prince Andrew that he could not appear in public at the event “for his own good”.

As the news emerged just hours before the Windsor Castle ceremony was due to begin, Prince Andrew was at pains to portray it as a “personal decision” he had made after realising the “timing was not right”. “He does not want to do anything that would embarrass the Queen or make things difficult,” one source said.

But Buckingham Palace aides told a different story, describing it as a “family” decision. So last-minute was the intervention that the order of service had already been printed, listing Prince Andrew’s position in the procession alongside the Earl of Wessex and directly ahead of Prince William.

The seating plan also showed that Andrew had been given top billing, positioned between the Princess Anne and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall for the service at St George’s Chapel. Instead, Andrew joined the Queen and rest of his family only for the investiture in the castle’s Garter throne room and the traditional lunch afterwards in the Waterloo Chamber, both behind closed doors.

The move prevented him from being photographed alongside other royals in the Order’s extravagant velvet robes and plumed hats. Camilla took part in the procession for the first time, having been appointed a Royal Lady of the Order of the Garter.

This was the latest humiliation for Andrew. His fate was sealed after the Telegraph revealed that he had been lobbying the Queen for a return to royal duties and was even pushing to have the colonelcy of the Grenadier Guards returned to him. Palace aides are confident this will not happen. “There’s a big difference between what you ask for and what you get,” one well-placed source said.

Andrew had been looking forward to taking part in the pomp and pageantry of the Garter procession, the first for three years, and had considered it a small step on the way to his return to some form of royal life. Instead he was photographed looking downcast at the wheel of his car, dressed in a suit.

The last-minute ban is indicative of the Royal family’s sensitivity to the strength of the public feeling about his “pariah” status, after he paid his sexual abuse accuser around £12 million to settle a high profile, and highly damaging, civil case in February. Andrew has always denied wrongdoing. It was considered fortuitous among many members of the family that Andrew was struck down with Covid ahead of the Platinum Jubilee and forced to pull out of the service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Prince Andrew had planned to attend Ascot more than once this week, and was due to appear in the Royal box, but again has had to abandon his plans after being warned it would not look good.

He's a bit thick isn't he, by now he should have been able to realize that he's toast as a public figure.

We’ll just do long as it’s not causing undue stress to Queenie wondering who is betraying her trust by leaking secrets. She’s a trooper and bloody old. Violet will be her defender.

Prince Andrew has asked the Queen to reinstate him as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards,

I don't suppose anyone has had the courtesy of asking the Grenadier Guards is they want him back. I suspect the answer would be a swift and loud NO!

Now his mother is dead, I think we can expect the heat to turn up. This looks entertaining

“A hilarious, all-singing, all-dancing reimagining of the Duke of York's very public fall from grace”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_ ... he_Musical

“The musical is a "satirical send-up" of the life of Prince Andrew, Duke of York and covers key events during his life, including his relationships, controversies, and his infamous 2019 interview with journalist Emily Maitlis.”

A musical of Randy Andy's life? Now, that's funny

The titles of the musical numbers are too:

"I Nailed It" a high-octane duet following Andrew's Newsnight interview

"Will You Be My Ex-Wife?" a romantic ballad sung between Andrew and Sarah

"Obey" a stirring solo number with Charles reflecting on royal scandals

"You're Always Gonna Need an Andrew" the final performance

"A Different Kind of Duty" ?

"My Profiterole" ?

"England Expects" ?

Prince Andrew sex abuse accuser Virginia Giuffre will be freed from gagging clause which banned her from speaking publicly about the Duke - one year after he paid out £12m in bid to draw line under scandal

Prince Andrew's sex abuse accuser Virginia Giuffre could return to the public eye next month as her gagging clause is lifted.

As part of the settlement last year the Duke of York and Ms Giuffre signed a one-year agreement that meant neither party could discuss the case or financial settlement made. With this clause lifting within weeks, Ms Giuffre, who is married with children, will likely be free to talk about convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein's abuse. This could include writing a book, or conducting printed or televised interviews with the media or writing a book.

The late Queen contributed to the reported $12 million settlement sum, with the gagging clause deemed critical in the agreement made. At the time, some Palace aides criticised the length of silence agreed, with one friend to the Duke saying: 'If you’re going to go for legal resolution at those sorts of prices then you want silence - but what we’ve got is silence for the Platinum Jubilee,' The Telegraph reported. The specific terms of the gagging clause have not been released. It will be lifted later next month. It is thought that Ms Giuffre may be free to publicly address how she was sex trafficked by Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
