CMAC, APOPO Sign Cooperation Agreement
AKP Phnom Penh, May 26, 2022 --
Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) and APOPO, a non-profit organisation that trains African giant pouched rats to save lives by detecting landmines, have reached a partnership and cooperation agreement on landmine clearance.
The agreement was inked at the CMAC’s headquarters in Phnom Penh on May 26 by CMAC Director General H.E. Heng Ratana and Mr. Micheal Heiman, APOPO Country Resident Representative.
The agreement focuses on the implementation of the project integration of landmine clearance by deploying landmine Herorats, demining machines and technical survey teams to release approximately 400 hectares of landmines contamination areas in four districts in Preah Vihear province, according to the director general.
This operation plans for 18 months, from May 2022 to December 2023, with total grant amount of some US$285,000, he added.
This is the first tranche of the project funded by the Government of Belgium for a five-year period (May 2022-May 2026), H.E. Heng Ratana pointed out.
