1. All citizens and foreigners living in the Kingdom of Cambodia must cooperate with the Royal Government, the Armed Forces of all kinds, sub-national administrations at all levels, the National Election Committee and the Election Commission at all levels, Businessmen and Vendors must suspend the sale and consumption of alcohol one day before Election Day and Election Day, June 4 and 5, 2022 to contribute to the prevention of violence, threats, intimidation, traffic accidents, social accidents and other phenomena that may be caused from drinking all kinds of alcohol.

This ban is to avoid drunken in-fighting between local factions and the odd barang drinking at home should have a negligible affect on the outcome.

KTVs, night clubs and beer gardens not allowed to open for two days next month

KTV, night clubs, beer garden and other venues in Cambodia that serve alcohol to their customers will not be allowed to open one day before and on the day of the upcoming Commune Election.

According to a circular issued today by the Ministry of Tourism, the order will be effective on June 4 and 5.

During the same period, all restaurants are also forbidden to serve wine and other alcoholic beverages to their customers.

The Tourism Ministry said that the measure is taken to prevent chaos and violence caused by consuming alcohol during the polls.

I don't remember it being enforced on western bars before but it's been 4 years and this time could be different. All Khmer staff should have been given the two days off so that they can go vote so could be skelton staff. There will be a low profile at a minimum. Just go look and see if you are curious. If places are serving, I'd recommend keeping it low key, don't go staggering down the street bawling out rugby songs.

It seems to me that polling is the problem, not boozing.

Anyway, we don't vote so why she we be subjected to the ban? I might write to HE and register my protest.

It was nice knowing you all...
