Man's Body Washes Up on Riverside, Phnom Penh

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On 19 May 2022, the body of a man was found washed up on the banks of the Tonle Sap River in central Phnom Penh at 8:30am, causing a surprise to local residents who reported the incident to the authorities.

The discovery was made at the riverfront in front of Wat Ounalom, Sangkat Chey Chumneas, Khan Daun Penh, Phnom Penh, when a man went down to the riverbank and found the dead body of an unidentified man which was lying on the riverbank. The man reported the incident to the local police of Chey Chumneas who then came to the scene and examined it. The authorities confirmed that the victim had indeed been floating in the river before being washed up on the riverbank. The Phnom Penh Municipal Police was also called upon to examine the victim.

Based on the authorities’ examination the victim was wearing a pair of black trousers and black boots and a shirt with a black cowboy jacket over it and was carrying a black handbag. He had a bank card, an OPPO mobile phone and a vaccination card with the name of Touch Maidak, a Cambodian around 30 years old and he had received the vaccine at Wat Prang Andet, Takeo province.

The police confirmed that the man died due to drowning, and the victim's body was sent to be kept at Wat Teuk Thla, waiting for his relatives to come and receive it for funerary rites.
