Mudita (expression of rejoicing in gains/merits/good deeds of others).

My person still wonders if householder Ben is the same like Ta (granfather) Ben, who once made similar in Rovieng for an Australian NGO, ADRA, where he looked after forest and wildlife with his wife some 12, 14 years ago.

Good for Ben. He has some powerful support now. No response from the smart arse naysayers on the forum? It’s hilarious that he should be criticised for doing the right thing by Cambodia by ignorant expats.
We need more brave people like Ben all over the world.

Environmentalist Benjamin Davis, an American, and his wife and two daughters were officially confirmed as Cambodian citizens in a ceremony yesterday.

Mr Davis and his family – wife Lwin Sharyn Patricia and two daughters Davis Amelie Charis and Davis Jarrah Camille – had been granted Cambodian citizenship in a Royal Decree by King Norodom Sihamoni in January 2022.

Mr Davis has been working with the government to protect and conserve wildlife and forest resources for more than 20 years and his Be Treed project has resulted in the conservation of the a portion of the sanctuary to be turned into nature tourism destinations.

Participating in the ceremony, Mr. Say Sam Al, Minister of Environment, said: “Cambodia has become the home of Ben and his family.

Today is a special day for Ben and his family, and on behalf of the Ministry of Environment, I would like to express my gratitude and thanks to Samdech Techo Prime Minister and Samdech Katiprittbandit Bun Rany HE, who both graciously granted us the request.

Senior Minister Meas Sophea, Chairman of the Preah Vihear Provincial Government Working Group, made a request to the Prime Minister to apply for Cambodian citizenship to Mr. Ben and his family.

Samdech Techo also addressed the King, and our revered King willingly offered Khmer nationality to Mr. Ben and his family.’

At the same time, the Minister thanked the provincial administration and district authorities of Preah Vihear province for joining the Ministry of Environment in the conservation of natural resources.

“Ben and his family are among the many people who have come to work in Cambodia for a long time to receive encouragement,” he said.

Mr. Ben and his family sacrificed their physical and mental strength with the rangers of the Department of Environment, Ministry of Environment, as well as joining the provincial administration in protecting and conserving natural resources in Preah Vihear province, making the protection and conservation of natural resources in Preah Vihear more effective.;

Mr. Davis thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for his support and encouragement saying

‘I did not expect to get Cambodian citizenship, I am very happy and thank you to the Royal Government of Cambodia and the authorities at all levels for taking care of us.

Their website is saying BeTreed is closed for the year, That is a pity, looks like a great spot to stay. Does anyone know of another homestay in the area?

UPDATE
Environment activist Ben Davis seeks $50K for canals
Orm Bunthoeurn | Publication date 10 January 2023 | 21:43 ICT

As of the end of 2022, environmental activist Ben Davis has dug 19 km of canals and built 7 km of fences and roads in an effort to prevent natural resource crimes from happening in the core areas of the Phnom Tnaot-Phnom Pok wildlife sanctuary located in Preah Vihear and Siem Reap provinces.

He has ambitions to complete the construction of the remaining 18 kilometers of canals and fences by the end of 2023 and called for more support to make this happen.

Davis said that so far he has received more than $120,000 from the Ministry of Environment and philanthropists for conservation and development of Phnom Tnaot-Phnom Pok Wildlife Sanctuary. The money has been used to dig 19 kilometers of canals and seven kilometers of fences and roads, stretching from the village to the forest.

According to Davis, the environment ministry permits him to manage the 7,300ha core area in Phnom Tnaot with the highest potential for natural resources and biodiversity. The area is rich in wildlife and has the thickest forest.

To protect the area and its wildlife, he has been dinging canals and fences to prevent wild animals from crossing and going over to destroy farmers’ crops and animals.

“We do not want the wildlife to be in a cage, but it is dangerous if they go outside. The area has too many plantations and they can destroy farmers’ crops like paddy rice and potatoes, especially the wild boars and gaurs. So we think it is safer if they are fenced in. We can protect both wild animals and people’s crops too,” he said.

Ben said he was so happy to see through a survey that 90 per cent of the population was satisfied with the project to build a fence to protect the core area of the sanctuary. According to the survey, people see his forest conservation efforts over the last three years as very successful.

The environmental activist stated that the construction of a canal to protect the core area had cost nearly $80,000, and that digging and fencing was still currently underway.
