Phone Snatcher Chased Down and Beaten by Mob
Cambodia News(Phnom Penh): On 5 May 2022, one of the three suspects who snatched a phone from a victim was immediately chased by local villagers and greeted with a mob beating at 5:15 pm, on the concrete road behind Borey O Bek Kam, Sangkat O Bek Kam, Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh. The suspect captured by the public is identified as 18 year old Heang Udom, who lives in Sangkat Stung Meanchey III, Khan Meanchey.
According to local sources, before the incident, the three suspects were seen riding two motorcycles up and down past the victim until they snatched the phone and escaped while the road was congested. But one of the escaping suspects, riding a red and black motorcycle, crashed into a car in front of Pheap Smile Mart; then he jumped up and ran away on foot until the border of Meanchey district, where the villagers caught up with him and stopped him in his tracks with necessary force. However, the other two thieves escaped on their motorbike.
After the incident, the police of O'Beak Kaam Administration Post took the suspect to the police station for interrogation, and the suspect is currently being held in custody at the Sen Sok police station where the case is being formed to be sent to court.

I quite like this aspect of Cambodian society, as long as they don't beat someone to death.

Another one bites the dust....Can be quite gruesome to see live, especially the kicks to the head. Have witnessed maybe half a dozen here in 10 years, 3 or 4 around the riverside. Those dishing out the beatings have most likely all been victims of some type of theft.

Good to see the local police are kitted out with the latest protective headgear, vests and steel-capped flip-flops.

I saw a nasty scrap at a bus stop once, an older woman was beating shit out of a young, attractive girl while a crowd watched. My first impression was disgust at everyone there and maybe a bystander thought I was going to intervene because he told me she had just caught the younger woman picking someone's pocket.Patcan wrote: ↑Sat May 07, 2022 1:55 pm Another one bites the dust....Can be quite gruesome to see live, especially the kicks to the head. Other people who arrived would awkwardly try to say something like 'come on now, leave her alone' - you could see the thought process, pretty young girl getting beaten up by a vicious old cow, that ain't cool - but then someone would tell them the girl was a thief and you'd see them shrug their shoulders and think 'fuck her' then.
Everybody knows how much it sucks getting your wallet or something expensive stolen, nobody has sympathy for a thief.
