Neighbors Intervene as Woman Beats Up 5Yo Nephew
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On 2 May 2022, a woman who was seen hitting her 5-year-old nephew at 9.40pm was reported to the authorities for intervention. The woman was known to have been hitting the child almost every day, causing injuries to the boy.The incident of the police intervention took place at a rental room along the railway line in Sangkat Boeung Kak II, Khan Toul Kork, Phnom Penh.
The victim was a 5-year-old Vietnamese boy named Ti. The boy's parents live in Vietnam, while the boy was living with a widowed aunt in a rented room for almost a few years now. It was observed that the widow never let her nephew out of the house to play with other children and was seen to be beating the boy every day. Often, when the woman hits the child, no one dares to step in to help, because the woman has a fierce temper and always argued with anyone who came to help the boy.
On the day of the incident, the woman was drunk and had an argument with a man who had an affair with her. The man was about to leave her, then when they began to argue, the little boy walked into the room during their argument and was suddenly hit by the woman. She raised her hand and beat the boy until the boy fell down, crying for pity and raising his arms in surrender. The woman continued to beat and kicked the boy on the bed, causing nosebleeds. Everyone knew that the victim was being horribly beaten for no reason, and so the neighbors reported the incident to the authorities, pleading for them to come and immediately intervene.
When the local authorities came, the woman refused to leave the house. However, the police managed to take the boy to the Boeung Kak II Administrative Police Station for one night, while waiting to summon the woman to the station for civil education the next day.
[CEO News: Presumably, this means that the child then gets sent back to live with his evil aunt ?]
