Hilux Owner Rips Up $100 Accident Compensation (He wanted 50K)

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On 3 May 2022, a woman on a motorcycle was riding a blue and white Honda Beat travelling eastward when she ran into a Toyota Hilux at 2:15 pm in Khan Dangkor, Phnom Penh.

The accident resulted in the Toyota suffering from a broken wing mirror and minor damage to the right front door, while the motorcycle was badly damaged at the front and the woman riding it suffered minor injuries.
The Hilux owner, Chet Soeung, demanded USD50,000 as compensation from the woman for damages, arguing that he had just bought a new car without a license plate, but the young woman said that she could only offer USD100 in compensation.

By the time local authorities arrived at the scene, the two had still not settled the compensation agreement for the damage. The car owner reduced his demand to USD 4000, but the motorbike owner insisted that she could only afford USD100.
But when the motorbike owner gave Chet Soeung the USD100 for pay for the damage, he took the USD100 note and tore it up in front of her, and then drove away in his new Toyota Hilux.

What a nasty little manlet. $50,000 for a wing mirror? riel maybe. If he can afford a car like that he can afford the repair and certainly shouldn't be ripping up all the money the girl could afford like a kid. He should have just accepted she was trying and handed it back.

I'll guess that he will be reading about him drunk and hitting a road divider and ruining the car sometime soon

What a fuss. They should have just exchanged insurance details.

What a prick. Seems like pick-up owners often fall into that category here. Raptors and Hiluxes come to mind. I do wonder how she managed to break the mirror though, seeing as her own mirror/handlebars would be way lower. Kinda odd.

Can't the owners of these valuable cars buy a comprehensive insurance policy including third party at fault damage?

Unless you have mandatory insurance with near 100% compliance, it is incumbent on you to protect your own assets, even from third parties who are at fault but also impecunious.

This is one of those situations where I'd like to see HS follow up with the Hilux owner, Chet Soeung, and shame him for wasting oxygen, and force him to buy the girl a new moto.

The most expensive model is just over $50,000.
