Luxury wood furniture

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Apart from the size, weight, price, design and lack of comfort, i'd like to add that the buyer doesn't even know what quality of wood this is, as the sellers usually spray the same orange shit varnish to equalize the wood components colors, that can vary from almost white (sapwood) to almost black (but is often bleached to lighten it), including various holes fillings due to rotten wood, worms, cracks...often made of some car-body epoxy in the best case, resin, plaster, aluminium foil with glue, whatever comes up....

So, if anybody is interested into ordering stuff like this, make sure you check the wooden item BEFORE the finishing, make a mark under it, check it out afterwise. You'll also be able to see what alledged widths and lenghts of wood you're paying for (patchworks are common).

Also, this is not luxury furniture, except in the average countrysider's mind.
Out of asia, even worse.

Yeah it's also seen as a sort of investment. I'd rather just buy wood and let it dry than buy something like that though. Weirdest are those super tall 2+ meter vases, or the stools made from cut up logs at dinner tables (campfire style). What's the point?' A waste of good wood. The 90 year old tree would be crying if it knew it ended up as a stool. All those big ornate chairs/sofas have like 90 degree back rests with curves in all the wrong places. It's like the furniture makers have never seen a human body before, know nothing about anatomy or something. I've never sat in a comfortable piece of such furniture, the only exception being those reclining sort of wooden lawn chairs some people have, but they're not exactly in the same category.
