Prince Andrew not given public funds to pay accuser: UK Treasury

London: Prince Andrew was not given a penny of public funds to pay off his accuser, the British Treasury insisted, as the settlement was finalised on Wednesday AEDT.

A joint order filed with the New York court called for the civil action to be dismissed. It stated that each side would cover its own costs and fees.

The financial deal is understood to exceed £12 million ($21 million), including a £2 million contribution to Giuffre’s sex trafficking charity thought to have been paid by the Queen. Her Majesty has privately funded Andrew’s legal fight since he was first cast adrift by the royal family in late 2019, following his disastrous Newsnight interview.

Prince Charles, heir to throne, is also said to have made a hefty financial contribution to the settlement in order to allow his brother to draw a line under the case and avoid further damaging the reputation of the monarchy, particularly in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year.

Possibly the queen then altered her will so Charles gets more than Andrew (or yet more than)

Def possible haha. Makes me think too that Charles is def showing king maker material! After all, from what I've been able to discern he doesn't think much of his younger brother.. yet, he seems to have put the personal feelings aside for the good of the royal family.

London: Just when we thought we’d seen the last of Prince Andrew, there he was, arm-in-arm with his frail 95-year-old mother, escorting her to her seat as the royals gathered to remember her husband - his dad.

But this was no run-of-the-mill family gathering. This was Westminster Abbey and broadcast live to a nation. Onlookers were surprised - and some were shocked.

Was this the Queen putting motherhood ahead of monarchy? A mother’s natural wish would be for comfort on a difficult day.



It is hard not to see this as anything but an endorsement for her son, her long-time favourite. It is little wonder others in the family are fuming.

Andrew’s starring role eclipsed anything else the royals may have hoped to communicate at the memorial - the Queen in public, surrounded by family, a grand old man given his rightful commemoration, a family united in grief. Hardly.



The tabloids went mad over the Queen’s “public display of forgiveness”, as the Daily Express put it: “Royal fallout”, “Royals’ dismay” and “the pain and the stain”.

Andrew was supposed to step back and quit public life over his association with the paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Earlier this month, he paid millions of pounds to Virginia Giuffre, who had accused him of rape, although he has consistently denied her allegations.

His older brother, Charles, and nephew, William – first and second in line to the throne – were the ones who insisted Andrew be stripped of his royal duties. It is this pair who now run the family business. The Queen was said to understand their decision, but was unpleased.

Family sources have told the British press said that senior royals – including Prince Charles and the Duke of Cambridge – were dismayed by events and that Andrew’s decision to put himself “front and centre” of the service had caused “consternation”.

I would certainly not put much faith in the tabloid headlines- the journo’s are liable to get the basic facts wrong in both those rags pictured. Fortunately, someone puts todays date on the page for them.

Sensationalist crap merchants that often miss the actual, more interesting truth.

She had reportedly a key role in persuading him to do the now infamous BBC interview last year which, in an attempt to clear his name, backfired spectacularly. The rumour is she has barely stopped crying since.

I guess the other possibility is so remote as to be unfathomable? That they might have actually like the old man, and miss him. Silly idea. Forget I mentioned it.

One of the Duke of York’s senior aides told bankers that a now disputed cash payment to the prince was for his daughter Princess Beatrice’s wedding, it has been reported.

In 2019, Andrew received £750,000 from Nebahat Isbilen, a Turkish millionaire and wife of a former leading politician, who has claimed in the high court that she was told by her financial adviser Selman Turk to pay the sum to the prince in return for assistance with a passport application. It was later claimed in court documents that this was a false representation.

Isbilen is now suing Turk in the high court, alleging that he defrauded her.

Andrew offered no explanation on Friday as to why the money originally entered his bank account and why he paid it back in full after being approached by Isbilen’s lawyers 16 months after it was received.
