Rain in March

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

some variations as always with weather and parts of the country.
This source says they are in March or April:
Mango Rains

Mangoes begin falling from the trees and onto the tin roofs with a resounding thud at all hours. Most people say Cambodia only has two seasons, but in March – April they welcome the Mango Rains. No planning around this season and no guarantee of its arrival at all, but if you’re lucky enough to find the perfect Cambodian getaway during the Spring months, you may experience the sporadic afternoon downpours … “Mango Rains“: Cambodia’s Third Season signaling the start of the monsoon season across Southeast Asia. Sometimes just a light sprinkle turns in a flash into a 3-hour downpour. Whatever the ferocity and duration of the storm everyone is delighted for the rain.

Poxy lightening took out my satellite TV receiver/box during our first heavy rainstorm 4 days ago, the second time in 6 months.
It was a direct hit on my satellite dish this time, I saw the strike through my kitchen window, standing about 5 meters from the dish (at least my LED house lights survived this one)
That’s 3 very near misses for me, another strike hit the road just in front of me was when riding my Moto on route 3, felt the buzzy tingling right through my arms, I wonder if I’m attracting them?

haha yeah, sorry about that. Just surprised me how heavy it was, I know there are the odd showers around this time of year, but 3 days of rain out of 4 seemed unusual, especially when yesterdays was torrential

The road outside my apartment was in flood per usual, but it is lower down from the buildings, so no problem. It's nice and refreshing when it rains in the city area. Kampong Cham in some areas have had rain for 5 days now.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Do the direct hits on buildings fry you electrical appliances connected to the main?

Nope, the TV set, fridge and fans etc are fine, as are any regular light bulbs.
