Governments and pension funds can be scrutinised and pulled to order, in most/some Western countries, just as Google was. Banks, I avoid where possible, regardless.

My post was also asking the question, of "how far do you go?" I'm saying, I wouldn't directly invest in weapons manufacturers.

Besides, while some investors might be attracted to the industry, due to the probable revenue increase, it is investments that drives the price.
The private pension funds I’ve been involved in you often don’t have a choice.

Anyway. Mute point really.
People of the world, spice up your life.

Not sure that even means. Anywho, the real question is the story real or not.

More "crackpot" media sources seem to verify the story.

Objectively, I can see the value in this move. These inmates have combat training. On the other hand, I can see the potential for problems.
Ukrainian prisoners with combat experience will be released from jail and allowed to serve their debt to society on the front lines of the conflict with Russia, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today.

Err, I'm not sure it's a given they will all see it that way. If you have served 4 out of 5 years for serious assault or whatever, why would you calculate that 1 year in jail is worse than a serious probability of dying on the front line? The risk/reward ratio is not good.

Remember these people are criminals and as such they are not the most dependable of people. In the fog of war, what's to stop them heading straight for the borders of which there are many - Poland, Moldova, Hungary, Romania or Slovakia.

On the other hand, when the Russians arrive at the prisons they might just shoot them all. They will need the space for the new arrivals such as the politicians, journalists, youtubers and anyone else not kissing Putin's ass.

They’re bombing schools, hospitals and residential areas, you don’t think they won’t bomb a prison? Hell, they bombed a nuclear plant. Better to have these convicts out rather than having them die in a cell in an explosion.

Or maybe Chernobyl?

Looks like we got the nuclear false flag (maybe):

Russia attacks Ukraine nuclear plant as invasion advances
https://apnews.com/article/russia-ukrai ... 7a645a9154

Russian forces shelled Europe’s largest nuclear plant early Friday, sparking a fire as they pressed their attack on a crucial energy-producing Ukrainian city and gained ground in their bid to cut off the country from the sea.

The world’s leading nuclear authorities were concerned — but not panicked — about the damage to the power station, but the assault triggered a phone call between U.S. President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the U.S. Department of Energy activated its nuclear incident response team as a precaution.
...........

U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm tweeted that the Zaporizhzhia plant’s reactors were protected by robust containment structures and were being safely shut down.

In an emotional speech in the middle of the night, Zelenskyy said he feared an explosion that would be “the end for everyone. The end for Europe. The evacuation of Europe.”

“Only urgent action by Europe can stop the Russian troops,” he said. “Do not allow the death of Europe from a catastrophe at a nuclear power station.”

But most experts saw nothing to indicate an impending disaster.

Never mind?

Or, party like it's 1999?

I'm not entirely sure why this question needs to even asked in the first place. And who exactly are the 14 [Mod edit: no need for name calling] who say they support a country run by corrupt criminals invading, without any provocation whatsoever, an entirely peaceful, independent, sovereign state, indiscriminately killing and maiming innocent civilians, many of them women and children?

To be fair, Putin must have the most punchable face in all of human history.

Deleted some off topic posts about the US. Please stay on topic.

On the issue of those members who voted for Russia, let's show some respect for their vote and not name call, bait or attack their views and opinions on the basis that one doesn't agree. I had to delete an earlier post because of this and edit another one. Sort of defeats the objective of a poll if members are afraid to vote through fear of being shot down (no pun intended) by other members.

Understandably this is a very emotional topic and there's majority support for Ukraine. Nevertheless, let's not 'hound' members to bring them to account over their vote. If they wish to give a contra view they can do so but let's not beat them into submission over their views going forward. Thanks.

As I mentioned some days ago; one of the main reasons for the invasion was to restore the water supply to Crimea as it's been turned off since 2014, meaning crop cultivation and industry was stymied. The water supply comes from dnipro in kyiv region
