Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

They are going to open 3 land borders. Two with Laos and one with Malaysia but I think it's only for nationals of those neighboring countries. With the new variant spreading fast in Southeast Asia hopefully this will go the same way as it has in the Uk

not enough sha+ approved hotels or hospital facilities ( in case of positive test) on land borders to open them to anyone but local merchants/truck drivers which have been open for a long time .

Surely they could work that out, at some borders (with larger cities nearby) easier than at others.

If they dropped the daft entry requirements for the fully vaccinated Tourists, it would have tempted far more arrivals.
The Omicron variant is much milder than Delta, and this has been known for a while now.

Whatever. They've relaxed the rules, but I doubt it's enough. The PCR tests are expensive, as is insurance and booking special hotels. And the second test results a worry to put people off going there. Meanwhile Thailand requires mask wearing and is currently a shadow of its former self, further making Tourists question.if it's even worth visiting anyway.
More than just any old backpacker.

looks like u can cross at 2 land borders ( not 3 as Udon Thani u cross at Nong Khai) as long as you can book a SHA+ hotel nearby
hotels seem to start at only $16 in Nong Khai

when will koh kong open as they have 4 SHA+ hotels in nearby Trat?
Koh Chang as 1 as well

1 SHA+ hotel in Surin ofr the Osmach crossing

Just needs the hotel and the hospital doing the test to fix your test positive and once they've got you in the hospital they can charge you what they like. They won't let you stay in the hotel to quarantine and even if they did it's $150 a day just for the room. The insurance companies make it extremely difficult to know for sure what they will cover and with the number of false positives and the financial incentive for a positive result it's like sending a tourist into a den of lions. I will put off my trip until they scrap all this bullshit . With the new variant it's not even necessary.
