Train Catches Fire in Sihanoukville

Cambodia News, (Preah Sihanouk Province): Lieutenant Colonel Oung Vuthy, Prey Nob District Police Inspector, said that a train caught fire in the early hours of this morning, at 3:10 am on February 25, 2022, on the railway line in Boeung Veng village, Veal Renh commune, Prey Nob district, Preah Sihanouk province.

Prey Nup District Police Inspector continued that the train that caught fire belonged to ROYAL RAILWAY type BB-1061 transporting diesel fuel from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville, driven by Oun Lin Win, male, 31 years old, train driver.

The fire did not cause any danger to people and nobody was hurt; there was only damage to the locomotive and the electrical system in the train. At the time of the incident, the fire truck of the Prey Nup District Police Inspectorate also intervened to help put out the fire.

What I don't get is, managing a track system like they have in Cambodia with close to no trains on the tracks, is no rocket science. But they still manage to have biweekly accidents.
Driving on Cambodian roads is just like playing a classic arcade top scroller. The only difference is a force feedback controller, the limitation to only one life and the inability to restart, once Game Over

I'm not referring to Covid, I'm talking about the total lack of any trains around 10 years ago.

Hasn't existed for over 20 years. Now the private sector get the subsidies, then screw it up until they go bust whereupon their routes return to public control (Network Rail). They seem to run more efficiently without having to pay dividends and so they sell them off again.
