Negativity towards expats

Post by sanpol »

I have heard recently from some expats that mainstream media is spreading a negative sentiment towards white expats or expats in general.
Have you guys noticed that?

Negativity is a nice way of saying racists.

Not seen any here.
There’s always a bit of animosity and/or prejudice towards any visitor. What they say behind our backs I don’t know or care.

Try being black (or South “African”, before even arriving) or Indian/Pakistani/Nepalese here and you’ll know what negativity is.

I haven't heard this, and generally foreigners who contribute to society are respected.
Although. (I am generalising) consider the riverside expat area
Drunk expats fighting amongst themselves and locals
Speaking rudely to staff
Not learning and understanding their cultures and beliefs
Not learning their language, at least the basics
Accusing locals of theft and lacking intelligence
Sitting in bars all day drinking 50c beers until they can barely walk.
So many foreigners are an embarrassment, and when my business partner and I had a meeting in the area, he asked me why I would want to live in such an area. (I don't live in riverside, but he was asking why the attraction for foreigners)
Think for a moment, when Asians come to our respective countrys. I still remember the rude and disrespectful comments about them..
I believe i am a guest in this great country, and try my best to understand and respect their culture and differences. I truly believe, this is one of the best countries in the world to live, and appreciate my time and the people here.
I believe we should shift our thinking towards assimilation, before we end up like the foreigner in Thailand.

How do you know they couldn’t walk before they started drinking?

It all comes down to perspective and attitude. People with negative attitudes of victimhood and the energy that goes with it often have paranoid delusions about being persecuted. They project their negativity onto the world and it gets reflected back at them.

Others can clearly see how they are making themselves miserable, but for them, it's reality.

Avoid such people. Stay positive and be grateful.
