I am a bit surprised people traveling to Thailand or Cambodia are surprised / upset about the situation they end up in when testing positive.
Just seems they're I'll informed and not aware of the risks involved when traveling far away during an unpredictable pandemic.

50/50, for me.

Having dealt with first, the UK system for completing and complying with passenger locator forms and testing requirements to get back to the UK last week, and then dealing with NHS/GP bureaucracy, I’ve encountered a great many broken links and processes, amid the myriad of variables that you have to negotiate-

If this, do that, but only if something else…

I would say it might be very easy to be overly positive, and get tripped up by something outside your control, but which should have been part of the risk assessment before booking.

How many people isolate completely after taking their PCR test for travel (within 72hrs, etc)? The negative result is based on a sample possibly taken a full 3 days before you arrive. Since then, there might have been a few pints in the pub, a last minute shopping trip for holiday gear, falling asleep in an airline seat and having your mask fall off, sitting eating your gourmet airline meal and drinking your fourth Jack and Coke (safe in the knowledge that you can’t get infected while eating in a cramped environment).

The relief of finally getting away may have naively put such considerations well to the back of the cranium.
