'Suspicious' Fire Burns Preah Roka Wildlife Sanctuary Building

Cambodia News, (Preah Vihear Province): An administrative building for the Preah Roka Wildlife Sanctuary in Preah Vihear, was completely destroyed in a fire at around 4 am on January 12, 2022.
The building was built of 8 meters by 25 meters of zinc roofing as an administrative building in front of the Chinese sugar plantation company in Po Teap village, Mlou Prey 1 commune, Chhep district, Preah Vihear province.

Yan Bunsoeung, director of the Preah Roka Wildlife Sanctuary, said that all his officers, including himself, were out on patrol in the forest, leaving only an old woman, the chef, and a child in the building, when the fire broke out and burned down the entire building.
Also destroyed in the fire were a Lancaster car belonging to Mr. Yan Bunsoeung, Director of Preah Roka Wildlife Sanctuary, 2 motorbikes, 3 computers, 1 refrigerator, 1 printer, 15 chainsaws, tables, cabinets and a large number of documents.

Authorities are investigating this case very carefully because it is suspected that it may be a case of arson caused by local resentment*.

*Another source says that the fire was indeed an accident caused by faulty wiring.
