Man Burns House, Because Father Refuses his Engagement
Cambodia News (Rattanakiri Province): On January 6, 2022, at 18:25 pm in village 2, Tropang Chres commune, Kon Mom district, a 6m x 7m house was set ablaze by a 25-year-old man, Bun Leng, after his 46-year-old father, Khen Sophea, refused to allow him to become engaged to the woman he loves.
Fortunately, no one was hurt as the father was away sleeping at the rice field shed. The fire was controlled and put out completely by the local firefighters.

Can anyone give a bit more context here?
To my naive western sensibilities it seems like if a 25yo wants to marry against his father’s wishes he could just, like, get on with it and do it anyway, no fire necessary, no? Is this sort of reaction common or is it an isolated nutcase?

No such thing as an isolated nutcase in the KOW.nerdlinger wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 7:18 am Can anyone give a bit more context here?

No freebies given here. Who's going to cough up the 8-12k for the potential breast milk in that case? And the bill for the wedding? Seems like this 25 yo didn't have the funds to acquire his 'freedom' and freaked out.nerdlinger wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 7:18 am Can anyone give a bit more context here?

Ratanakiri people are very, very passionate
To be honest, loads of Cambodians are, fueled by all the karaoke videos about L O V E
