Kampot Parents Cry for Justice After 4 Kids Killed by Drunk Driver
Cambodia News (Kampot Province), 17 December 2021: A horrific traffic accident happened on 1 December 2021 in which 4 school children, who were riding 2 motorcycles in pairs, were hit by a car on their way home from school at night. The accident occurred at 5:30 pm on 1 December 2021 in Touk Meas village, Touk Meas Khang Lech commune, Banteay Meas district, Kampot province. The four children died on the spot.
It has been more than half a month since the accident, yet the perpetrator has not yet come forward to bear responsibility. The people who witnessed the accident said that the perpetrator appeared to be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
This act of trying to escape from the law has angered parents and relatives of the victims, and they call on the relevant authorities almost every day to help find the light of justice for the dead whose eyes are closed. According to the Facebook account of Savin Tren, the mother of one of the victims: "The murderer who killed four students is not responsible before the law and has a job as a law enforcement officer. Please find justice for me (I am from Kampot province)."
Prior to the accident, witnesses at the site saw a heavy truck carrying bags of cement travelling southwards and the car overtook two motorcycles that were driving next to it. However, in order to avoid a oncoming car while overtaking, the vehicle crashed into the school kids on their motorbikes, killing them instantly.

Compensation sought in Kampot fatal road accident
Kim Sarom | Publication date 20 December 2021 | 21:48 ICT
The families of four students’ killed by a driver who fled the scene of the accident are demanding $20,000 each in compensation.
Kampot provincial traffic police summoned the vehicle owner and the parents of four deceased students on December 19 to resolve claims arising from a traffic accident in front of Touk Meas High School in Banteay Meas district on December 1. The four victims’ families are demanding $20,000 each in compensatory damages for their losses.
Kampot provincial deputy police chief in charge of traffic Ngem Vet said on December 19 that his authorities summoned the driver to resolve the issue with the victims’ parents at the traffic office on December 19, but both parties needed to agree to the settlement.
He added that the authorities were still working on mediating the dispute. However, according to the law, in cases where traffic accidents occur that result in fatalities, there are two matters that must be considered.
The first matter is the civil claims to compensation by the families of the victims and the second matter is the potential criminal prosecution of the driver if they are determined to be responsible for causing the accident.
“Therefore, the driver, in addition to paying compensation, is responsible for criminal offenses that resulted in fatalities that he must answer for. Even if the civil settlement is finalised, the criminal case must be sent to court,” Vet said.
Chun Sokna, the uncle of one of the victim’s – Chheang Parinha, 16 – said on December 19 that he and the parents of the three other students were summoned by the Kampot provincial police to meet with two men representing the driver of the car on the morning of December 19.
However, the meeting didn’t have any final results yet and the representative postponed further discussions until December 21, when another meeting with the parents was scheduled to take place.
Sokha added the victims’ parents thought there would be a proper solution when driver of the car asked for the meeting, but in front of the traffic police his representatives requested to keep negotiating until December 21.
Prior to the meeting on December 19, the parents of the students were demanding compensation of $20,000 per victim through the authorities but when the time came to meet the representatives of the driver did not say anything.
“We are not just demanding money as the victims, but as parents even 100 times that amount will not equal the loss of a child,” he said.
Nak Dim, Banteay Meas district police chief, said on December 19 that at around 7pm on December 1 there was a traffic accident between a car and two motorcycles involving the car’s driver and four students – three of whom were killed at the scene-in front of Touk Meas high school and another that died after he reached the Banteay Meas District Referral Hospital.
“We do not know whether the owner of the car was drunk or not because he fled the scene, and that is also a crime. The car owner was just passing through Kampot province,” he said.

Re: Kampot Parents Cry for Justice After 4 Kids Killed by Drunk Driver
They seem to be 14-16 y.o, it's pretty usual in SE asia to see them on the way to/from school by themselves on a scooter, isn't it ?Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 5:00 pm Poor kids at that age shouldn't have been riding on the road to begin with, but ofc I hope the perp is caught
The fucking driver shouldn't have been drunk or taking drugs to begin with.
I also sure hope the perp will get tough sanctions, not just sending 2 guys while being busy elsewhere to gain time...jails are made for these c*unts.

Agree these c*nts that overtake expecting anything smaller than them coming the opposite direction to get off the road onto the roadside, I'm thinking of carrying a bunch of rocks to throw at these pricks as I head off onto the roadside.Ghostwriter wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 2:26 amThey seem to be 14-16 y.o, it's pretty usual in SE asia to see them on the way to/from school by themselves on a scooter, isn't it ?Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 5:00 pm Poor kids at that age shouldn't have been riding on the road to begin with, but ofc I hope the perp is caught

Re: Kampot Parents Cry for Justice After 4 Kids Killed by Drunk Driver
If this happened on any of the main roads in Kampot, all i can say is i dont know why it does not happen more
with the number of heavy trucks and 4wd's on the roads, passing each other and anyand all bikes or bicycles. I hate driving the kep-kampot road>
As to why they were on bikes, how else are they to get and from school>
"....meet with two men representing the driver of the car on the morning of December 19."
so they know who he is, yet the police do not make them tell them and have him arrested? He left the scene of an accident + a 4x murder and he is not in Jail? wtf???
THe judicial system here leaves a lot to be desired.
