Great news for Cambodian wildlife!

Cambodia News, (Virachey National Park): His Excellency Neth Pheaktra, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Environment, said that the giant endangered species was found for the first time in the protected areas of Cambodia since it was first discovered 30 years ago in 1994 in Vietnam and Laos in the Anam Mountains.(The Annamite Range or the Annamese Mountains also extend into the far north-east of Cambodia.)
The large-antlered muntjac, or Giant muntjac (Muntiacus vuquangensis), which is among the world's most endangered species on the IUCN Red List, was caught on camera-traps in Virachey National Park in northeastern Cambodia. This was part of an operation to study rare wildlife in Virachey National Park, Ratanakkiri Province, from March to May 2021.
This is very good news for Cambodia and for the whole world that this most endangered species is present in Cambodia. The results of this study are invaluable for the conservation of biodiversity and the environment, and it is imperative that we all work together to protect and conserve this rare species in Cambodia's forests.
