The Little Things

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

#1- I've lived in the same building for 5 years with no increase in rent. My landlord is happy to have regular income from a quiet tenant.

#2- Pretty common. There was a coffee shop I visited daily for 2 years, which abruptly closed. No notice or 'thank you for your custom'.

#3- Carry correct change. Write down the agreed price with the driver before leaving.

#4- Would a 'Do not disturb' sign help?

#5- Any young men or teens about? They're often willing to help me out.
General Mackevili wrote:The prices for rum shots and cans of coke were clearly on the menu. We ordered several of each (I think coke was a dollar and shots were maybe $1.50).

We get the bill and it's much larger that it should be. First they pay stupid, then finally say, "This new price. We not update menu yet."

We paid the menu price and left while exchanging colorful words in Khmer.
This is why I recommend carrying the correct change with you. You can't get overcharged or short changed if you have the correct money. This is pretty common and I only insist on paying the menu price if it's a tourist place. Khmers have no respect for the written word and will rarely update or remove inaccurate menus or posters.
Scarier than malaria.

That feeling when you take a local girl to a nice subdued ambient restaurant for a meal and she has a ten minute conversation on her phone at an Asian 120 decibels completely unaware of her racket affecting every other diner within a bulls roar. :o
