Cambodia News, (Pailin Province): On the afternoon of December 6, 2021, a scandal broke out on social media, concerning Pailin Provincial Prison located at Teuk Chech village, Stung Kach commune, Sala Krao district, Pailin province, with facebook users complaining that the Director of Pailin Provincial Prison named Rath Ty, and Heng Chandara, deputy director of the prison, have conspired to sell drugs and cell phones throughout the prison.


The same source added that in Pailin Provincial Prison, two prisoners have died there without anyone knowing the reason for their deaths. Also, photos were published to show the daughter of the director of the prison bringing officers beer to drink during working hours in an unprofessional manner. Therefore, they ask the competent authorities to please remove the director of Pailin Provincial Prison and remove the Deputy Chief of this provincial prison as well.

As for the people who have relatives in Pailin Provincial Prison, some of them expressed their concern to our agency: A man had a son who was addicted to drugs and he complained to the police to take him to prison for drug abuse, but recently his son complained that the guards kicked him and beat him up, but he is too scared to complain officially because it could endanger his life.

Mr. Rath Ty, Director of Pailin Provincial Prison, is not responding to calls from journalists.
