I am sure he is a coastal engineer and understands the incredible power and complexity of the forces he is flocking with.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 1:44 am KEP: December 9, 2021
Official accused of encroaching coastal land
- so it will not be an environmental or economic disaster up and down the coast on either side.

Re: The Kep Revival
As of this morning land reclamation has been completed up to the Crab Market with no less than 200 forty-ton trucks and 10 bulldozers. One may ask how coastal resorts and other landowners affected by this project are compensated for the loss of the waterfront.

Re: The Kep Revival
there have been lots more than 200 trucks/day for the last month
those that own waterfront property are "given" the use of half of the reclaimed land for their use>
lets see how that plays oiut

Sorry 200 trucks on the job daily is what was meant. Indeed the total fill tonnage for this project can be seen by the large tracts of hills being deforested and carved out in many places just north of Damnak Chang'aeur over the railway line but before the Kampot/Kep province boundary.

Re: The Kep Revival
At the crab market now, the "beach" is only about 50 yards away and there is basically a truck a minute. I reckon it's grown a couple of metres while waiting for my food to be cooked.

Re: The Kep Revival
From my house down 33a to the beach this afternoon, i must have passed at least 30 trucks in 10 minutes heading back to get more dirt>
I bicycle down in the early morning and the trucks are on the road, so id say 100 trucks/hour, not 200/ day
amazing how fast land can be made

200 trucks on the job means about 1600 truckloads per day (200 per hour) if the round trip takes 1 hour.

Re: The Kep Revival
i am surprised nobody has posted what is actually happening in Kep.
This is not beach making. It is a whole series of huge land reclamation projects.

Re: The Kep Revival
I should read the Khmer Times more often than never.
Okey dokey, now i see the beach master plan.

I still say "Good luck"
nb, Although most of the developments in the VOD post above are closer to Kampot ^^, those indications of creeping coastal landfill right up to Kep city centre and further south are a concern.
You know what it's like here.
What BigWig is going to resist the temptation to landfill every inch of the coastline that they can get their hands on - and stick a "planned 6 Star hotel" on it?
Even this official "beatification plan" and "3 km beach" (in this KT link) seems to be a bit vague and so full of holes that a six-pack of condos could easily slip through.
This is all just my view, and i acknowledge that i am very sceptical about such things. Just trying to put in a slightly informed angle.
It may all turn out to be one big happy Waikiki Beach after all.
