Student Hacked to Death While Eating on Riverside

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

UN Urges Independent Investigation into Political Activist Murder Case

The UN, through its spokesperson, has come out to urge Cambodian authorities to launch an independent investigation into the murder of a former CNRP political activist in late November.

"We note that the suspects have been arrested, but what is worrying is the inconsistency between the evidence of the authorities and the information that our office has received. "Therefore, we call for an independent and impartial investigation into this murder." This was stated by Robert Colville, spokesman for the United Nations Office of Human Rights on December 3.

The allegations focus on the assassination of Sin Khon, a former CNRP political activist who was beaten to death by unknown assailants at one o'clock in the morning on November 21 in front of the Old Pagoda in Phnom Penh's Chroy Changva district. The Cambodian Gendarmerie on November 22 arrested the perpetrator named Sieng Chharath, who confessed to stabbing the victim. According to the confession, the Phnom Penh Military Police claimed that it was an individual verbal conflict, not a political one.

However, for national and international civil society groups, a transparent investigation is the only way to avoid the suspicion that it is a political issue, as the victim, Sin Khon, is a former CNRP activist, who has also been previously attacked by unidentified individuals and has received threatening phone calls.

Worthy and frightening situation here, the last bit in the most recent post by CEO news ought to read "had" where "has'' is used.

"Student Murder in Phnom Penh Not Politically Motivated"

So screams the headline on EAC News. |If you do a google search it's the first hit you get.
EAC is described as:
Cambodia's only English-language news channel, featuring breaking news, daily and weekly roundups, as well as documentaries and features that bring you a deeper look at Cambodian issues.
https://eacnews.asia/home

What is EAC? A new mouth organ for the powers that be?
she was quite pretty and looked older
she knew only what had been told her

Of course, you are saying... "made to look like a personal grievance" ...

When bystanders are told not to talk to reporters, well. It doesn't take much thinking to figure this scene out...

(To all those apologists, mostly old Americans, who get your jollies by defending the regime, I hope you feel all warm and cozy snuggling up with the family tonight......)
