Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Reminder: In Cambodia, even "healthy" food is not always safe for consumption, including tofu, fish sauce, and vegetables.

Cambodia News(Phnom Penh): On 1 December 2021, the General Consumer Protection, Competition and Anti-Fraud Department announced that investigating officers of the Department in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province, carried out inspections on dried beancurd or tofu, fish sauce, soy sauce, vinegar and salt processing manufacturers located in Phnom Penh and Kandal province.

The purpose of the inspection is to find out the presence of banned chemicals in the product and the manufacturers' compliance with technical conditions to ensure the health and safety of the general public. Based on inspections conducted, 2 out of 3 manufacturers in Kandal province were fined for processing dried tofu using banned chemicals, and the products were confiscated by the authorities.

Meanwhile, in Phnom Penh, 180 bottles of fish sauce (equivalent to 27 kilograms) were confiscated and stored for destruction, and the distribution of 12 tons and 400 kilograms of salt was suspended. The entrepreneurs found non-compliant were required to present themselves at the Department in Phnom Penh to give explanations.

Uh oh - what do they use?
Dried beef is one of the staples on remote trips for this old hippy
I don't buy the farmer's dead old cow dried by the side of the road, for obvious reasons. I buy that high end stuff at Psar Thmei (for about the same price).
It looks great but maybe it is more "industrially" processed.
