រនាបបាក់យករនាបជួស សម្តីហួសរកអ្វីជួសគ្មាន ។
Trellis broken, lift trellis to renew, sayings beyond repairing do not exist.

បង្វិលអណ្តាតដប់ជុំសិន សឹមនិយាយ ។
To turn the tongue 10 times around fist, and then speak.

Why not just write "Khmer"?
Silence, exile, and cunning.

There's a book of proverbs written by a French guy, Alan somebody. Can't recall the name of the book but I have a copy of it somewhere. Let me check.

They had these so-called proverbs in the back of the menu at Metro on Riverside. Don't know if they are still there.
I was interested once upon a time.

Things like, "don't put you head in the mouth of a hungry crocodile, or your might become deaf". That sort of crap.

Here are some more reasonable Khmer proverbs:

1. Negotiate a river by following its bends, enter a country by following its customs.
2. People give but do not be in a hurry to take.
3. Helping others who are in need will bring good fortune/Karma.
4. Knowing yourself to be ignorant, you will eventually become wise.
5. You learn from studying, you gain wealth from working.
6. Do good, get good. Do bad, get bad.
7. Words show personality. Manners show your family.

You mean this guy, Alain (Emile-Auguste Chartier, known as "Alain", French philosopher)
