Cambodia News (Koh Kong) Police in Botum Sakor district arrested a man on Monday, 29 November 2021, for embezzling more than $ 10,000 in an illegal land sale in Tanon commune, Botum Sakor district, Koh Kong province.

Police said the suspect, Mab Lundy, resided in Cham Yeam village, Pak Klang commune, Mondul Seima district, Koh Kong province whereas the victim is a resident of Tanon Village, Tanon Commune, Botum Sakor District, Koh Kong Province.

According to Meas Sokchea (the victim), she met with Mab Lundy (the suspect) on 14 October 2021, at a clearing site in Tuol Po village, Tanon commune, Srok district. Botum Sakor, Koh Kong Province. Mab Lundy claimed that he was a member of the National Land Management Authority and told Meas Sok Chea that the plot of land could be distributed in Tanon Commune.

On 15 October 2021, Mab Lundy sent a message to Meas Sokchea saying that he needed $ 1,500 to run the paperwork, but Meas Sok Chea returned only $ 400 because she did not trust him. Later, Mab Lundy sent Meas Sok Chea six more money transfers through Wing, totaling $ 10,400.
However, it was then discovered that Mab Lundy did not have any land documents or any legal claim to land anywhere, so Meas Sokchea filed a lawsuit against him.

Lends more weight to my theory that the best thing the 'authorities' around the world can do to catch money launderers & terrorists is to remove all "KYC" checks from account opening. Let the idiots hang themselves with totally traceable transfers - Wing would have no trouble at all building a case file & handing it to the 'competent authorities' for action.

All these stupid checks are a huge burden on banks, MFIs and Fintech in general & all they do is force criminals to use cash - the smart ones will rarely be caught. But you just need one idiot in your chain to use any formal electronic system, and you've got the wasp that flies back to the nest of thieves.
