How bargirls survived during covid
Re: How bargirls survived during covid
I think the majority stayed around, hoping for better times coming soon.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 9:07 pm Just to add some further perspective too.. I presumed that many girls would have returned to the province when covid came and the bars closed.
They rent a room, have friends, are scared to lose their room, don't want to lose face returning home, and a million other reasons....

@jah steu Could you publish the dataset... I know the sample size is tiny, but there's almost no sample at the moment in the wild. It would be deeply appreciated.

Re: How bargirls survived during covid
Most bargirls I know survived by keeping their operating costs low. It does not take much to survive in PP, if your expectations are not high. They hunkered down, and weathered the storm, in anticipation of the hun-sum Tommies who would come across the horizon and lift them out of their miserable present once the evil Covid king got slain.
If you're savvy, you can live on less than $100/mth in pp.
And the bargirls, who are hardened and baptised by the hardknocks of real life, can handle it. In fact they, can surf on it. They will put most of us to shame when it comes to surviving, and doing it with a smile.
Also, female moneylenders have had brisk business during the covid period. Many girls are in debt, and many money lenders are waiting for new Audi's...

Here is the dataset. As you say it’s a very small sample from two specific bars. Also the girls’ income varied quite a bit month to month they said. So these figures are their estimates of average earnings each month.ofparadise wrote:jah steu Could you publish the dataset... I’ve added in the age of each girl. Average age was 27.7, which is older than I thought.
The survey was anonymous, but it was fun trying to guess which subject number was which girl!

Give us 50,000. Less the one possible reason you gave (friends) for staying.Kammekor wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 5:54 pmI think the majority stayed around, hoping for better times coming soon.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 9:07 pm Just to add some further perspective too.. Pedantism (poetic license) aside, majority? I didn't do a head count, so 2 things; 1)you could be right, but a lot left (or maybe that's just the message for me), and a lot of new ones are here now. Apparently; 2)you can't be wrong, because you wilyly (yep) lead in with "I think"
Fuck I'm boring myself! New thread please.

As one member alluded to, it isn’t just the bar girls that have a short term view on money. I would have to guess about half the Khmer are savers and planners. The other half are not and spend money like water and take on irresponsible debt.
Virtual doesn’t convey all the intangibles of body language. Especially if English is poor. And virtual can’t give heart touching hugs and pedicures. Or even back scratches.
Looking at the graph, I wonder if there’s a correlation between physical beauty, skill in English or just general communication skills, and income?
In other words, did the least pretty girls with no English skills and rough manners end up having to go back the village and work the rice fields to survive?
Hope the virus gets under control and everything returns to normal.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
Re: How bargirls survived during covid
I assumed that more money would be made from going w/ customers. Maybe I am projecting? lol but looking at the data, it doesn't seem much. If a girl goes w/ customer and say they get 30-50 dollars? Many of the girls earn less then 200 per month on going w/ customers. Another thought-- Some girls can be creative, going with customers before they start or after work.jah steu wrote: ↑Fri Nov 26, 2021 5:13 pmHere is the dataset.
