Car title
Car title
How are car titles and registration handled in Cambodia?. I’m looking a buying a car and have been told it will cost around $500 to transfer the title, which seems a little excessive. TIA.

Should cost around $50
But, unless the previous owner goes with you to do that process then you gotta start paying fixer money to make the problem dissappear

Re: Car title
Be careful, as I understand it, it has to be the original/first time owner you transfer the registration from. If a vehicle has previously been registered to more than one owner, its not possible for it to be registered to a barang.Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 12:12 pmShould cost around $50

Re: Car title
My wife is Cambodian, so the title could be in her name. Would that solve the problem if its been previously transferred?

told me same butFreightdog wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 4:12 pmThat’s effectively what Matt (CNM) told me. Get the vehicle in my partner’s name, first.
I want it in my name.
why? cause i want to take it to Thailand without the wife<
NOt sure what papers the border would accept from her, allowing me to do so.

Re: Car title
I think, but not entirely sure- once it is in my partner’s name, then it is easier to put it in my name.
Easy going Khmer to Khmer, more protracted going Khmer to Barang. At least, that’s what I understood, but I might have to take another look at the notes.

Car title
The house is already in my wife’s name, so why not the car? The title is in first owners name and we are buying it from the second owner, so my wife’s family is still saying $480 to clear it. Ouch.

Unless you're legally married in Cambodia I don't see why that would be the case.Freightdog wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 4:40 pm I think, but not entirely sure- once it is in my partner’s name, then it is easier to put it in my name.
