I asked Erste Bank about the option about shipping it to a friends address but they wont allow it. I need to be registered there.

I don't see the problem. Swift transfers from IBAN accounts work out very smooth these days, usually the money is in within 24 hours and the fee on this side is generally 0.1% or 10$ (minimum 10$) which is the equivalent of about two ATM withdrawals with your Austrian card. It's a no brainer if you stay here for more than two ATM withdrawals.

just wired $$ from US citi bank ( $35) to CAB ($5)
took less than 24 hours
