What health insurance would you recommend and why?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I'm going to make the 'go fund me' joke early on just to get it out of the way so that hopefully this might turn into a helpful topic looking for a similar answer.

I think to be honest, travel insurance is so complicated, it really does depend on what your needs are compared with what you're willing to pay.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.

In order to give you a better answer you should first answer yourself what exactly you are expecting to be covered and most importantly how long you are going to live here.
If only for a short time that a cheap travel insurance might be right. If living long term then an expat insurance is needed (but much more expensive).
Another aspect that many people completely forget when they stipulate a contract is the maximum duration. Most insurances do not include pre existing conditions, which means that if you have a one year policy and you catch yourself a chronic disease during this year then your insurance will pay only during that first year. The next year, if they allow you to stipulate another contract, this disease will be excluded! An example that comes to my mind is HIV, once contracted you will need medicine for the rest of your life.

There are quite a few topics on this issue. Have a look at 'Similar topics' at the bottom of this topic for links. Also, search 'Medical insurance' or 'Expat insurance'.
