Battambang Province: On October 3, 2021, there was a terrible fire in a large barn, where the straw in the shed above caught fire and burnt all the furniture and other valuables that were being stored in the warehouse after the owner had moved out of his house and taken away his possessions to be stored in a shed at Kien Kes 1 village in Kork Khmum commune, Thmor Koul district.

The fire caused damage of about $ 30,000, but did not endanger lives. The site of the fire was a large barn measuring 15 meters by 30 meters, made of wood and zinc by Ma. Nhon Veasna, a 57-year-old man, living in the above commune.

According to the victim's account, the police quoted him as saying that he had demolished his old house to build a new one, moving all his belongings, beds, tables, closets, clothes and accessories into the shed. While the new house was being built, he was also temporarily staying in the barn.
Unfortunately, the fire also destroyed US$20,000 in cash that the home owner had recently taken from the bank to pay for his new building.

A preliminary police investigation has determined that the fire was most likely caused by an electrical malfunction.
